R & D expenditure accounted for 1.01% of GDP
Research and Development (R & D) activities of public bodies covered by the survey, private universities and commercial sectors in the survey results with the public universities, according to calculations made based on the budget and staff of casting Turkey in gross domestic R & D spending compared to the previous year, in 2014 18% Increased by 8% to TL 17 billion 598 million.

Half of the total R & D expenditure was made by the commercial sector
In the gross domestic R & D expenditures, the commercial sector had the largest share with 49.8%, followed by the higher education sector with 40.5% and the public sector with 9.7%. In the previous year, the commercial sector was again in first place with 47.5%, followed by higher education with 42.1% and public sector with 10.4%.

In 2014, 50.9% of R & D expenditures were financed by the commercial sector, the public sector with 26.3%, the higher education sector with 18.4%, domestic resources with 3.4% and foreign resources with 1.1%. followed.
Number of R & D personnel in FTE increased by 2.2%
In 2014, 115 444 people worked as R & D personnel in terms of Full Time Equivalent (FTE). The number of R & D personnel in terms of FTE increased by 2.2% compared to the previous year. Regarding the distribution of R & D personnel by sectors, 53.7% of the total R & D personnel in FTE terms were in the commercial sector, 35.7% in the higher education sector and 10.6% in the public sector.

The number of female R & D personnel in Full Time Equivalent (FTE) accounted for 30.2% of the total R & D personnel with 34 826. The ratio of female R & D personnel in FTE was 23.2% in the commercial sector, 25.7% in the public sector and 42% in the higher education sector.
Most R & D staff in Istanbul (TR1)
According to Classification of Statistical Region Units (NUTS) Level 1, the region with the highest R & D expenditures in 2014 was West Anatolia Region (TR5), which included Ankara, Konya and Karaman (26.4%). Marmara (TR4) and Istanbul (TR1) Region with 21.6%.
According to the number of R & D personnel, Istanbul (TR1) takes the first place with 23.6%, followed by West Anatolia Region (TR5) with 21.8% and East Marmara (TR4) with 14.3%.
