According to the results of the Thermal Power Plant Water, Wastewater and Waste Statistics Survey, 6.5 billion m3 of water was drawn by thermal power plants in 2014, 98% of which was from the sea and 98% of the total water was used as cooling water.
6.4 billion m3 wastewater discharged by thermal power plants
99.6% of the 6.4 billion m3 wastewater discharged by thermal power plants in 2014 was discharged into the sea and 9 million m3 of the 92.5 million m3 wastewater, excluding cooling water, was treated.
24.2 million tons of waste generated in thermal power plants
Thermal power plants generated a total of 24.2 million tons of waste, of which 9.1 thousand tons were hazardous. 98.5% of the waste generated was mineral wastes (ash, slag, fly ash, gypsum, etc.). 48.3% of the total waste is thrown into the ash mountain / ash dam, 21.7% is in landfill, 15% is sold or sent to licensed waste disposal and recovery companies, and 15% is stone quarry, disposal in municipal waste, etc.).
