President Halil Baştürkmen, who issued a message on the occasion of World Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, stated that everyone has to act responsibly in order for our disabled people to exist and find a place in social life:
"It is necessary for our nature to approach our citizens with disabilities with the same feeling and emotion with the principle of equality, which is a part of the contemporary social understanding that is one of the values that will enrich and strengthen societies in social and cultural sense. As the owner of the faith, we must attach great importance to supporting our disabled brothers and facilitating their lives in all matters. We need to fulfill our social duties without distinction between quality and quantity in terms of the services we will provide to our disadvantaged individuals in the society and the steps that every citizen will benefit equally from social welfare and development. At this point, we can only talk about social welfare unless disability is not a disadvantage and the obstacle is created by us. Knowing that the sensitivity and feeling that we will show for their rights is not a blessing is an expression of the socio-cultural richness of our humanity and society. All kinds of studies for disabled people will be one of the most important features that will raise our country to the level of contemporary societies as it will enable equal opportunities for disabled individuals to benefit from social services as much as non-disabled individuals. Public institutions, local administrations, non-governmental organizations and all citizens should cooperate in order for our disabled people to look to the future with confidence and become self-sufficient as producing individuals.
I wish everyone to embrace our disabled people with love and understanding and contribute to the solution of their problems. I congratulate December 3, World Day of Persons with Disabilities with my heartfelt feelings. "
